A painter who performs

Behzad Behpour, known as BehzadTheArtist, is a painter and live performance artist whose practice brings together painting, movement, music, digital imagery and video projection. His work has evolved from an early foundation in realism and impressionism toward an increasingly abstract and experimental visual language.

He developed his artistic career through years of living and working in New York and later Hamburg, before establishing his studio and gallery in San Juan, Ibiza. His work maintains a connection to his Persian roots while embracing a dramatic, vibrant and contemporary approach to painting and performance.

He is recognised for his distinctive techniques, expressive use of colour and willingness to experiment across traditional painting and live multimedia performance. The practice is designed not simply to produce an image, but to create a shared moment between artist, audience, music, space and movement.

  1. Early 1980s

    Realism and impressionism

    Behzad begins as a painter trained in realism and impressionism — the foundation his later work moves away from, and the reason the abstraction that follows is built on drawing rather than instead of it.
